The Augusta Nature Education Center is operated by the Augusta Nature Club (ANC) of Augusta, Maine. It offers a network of trails for walking, running, biking, snow shoeing, cross-country skiing, sledding, photography, painting, geocaching, wildlife observation, and relaxing: any non-motorized daylight activity is welcomed! It is truly our “Diamond in the Rough”.
Operating since early in the 1960’s, the Augusta Nature Education Center has been providing Augusta area residents and visitors with a unique and free opportunity to understand and enjoy Maine’s plants and wildlife in a beautiful, natural setting; all within minutes of downtown Augusta – along Whitney Brook. The Center is open to everyone; 365 days a year during daylight hours. When you visit our Center you will find nearly 5 miles of trail that wind throughout 116 acres of meadow and forest revealing historic granite quarries, small waterfalls, quiet lily ponds, active beaver ponds, and other flowers and wildlife that are native to Maine. In 2006, Cony High School moved in next-door and there has been a significant increase of daily use in the Augusta Nature Education Center. We are excited about this opportunity to include the Center in the education and sporting activities of students! In response, the Center has undertaken a major upgrade to the trails, bridges, entrances, maps, and all of those other basic things necessary to meet the new patterns of use. Programs of support for Sponsors, Partners and Volunteers are on-going and you will find the specifics on our GET INVOLVED page.
